Together with humane-slaughter specialists from Bristol university, Eyes on Animals re-visited this cattle and sheep slaughterhouse that EonA knows very well. Years ago we taught the use of captive bolt stunners on cattle. We were very pleased to see that the captive bolt stunner we gave them 4 years ago is still in use and gave them some more boxes of cartridges. Since stunning is still seen as taboo among some buyers, stunning cannot be performed on all cattle and is still kept discrete. Today we were there with an electric stunner that Miguel and Aled from Bristol University had brought with them so that they could show the manager, veterinarian and workers at this plant also how to stun sheep prior to cutting their throat, so that their suffering was reduced. We also taught the main butchers at this plant how to use it properly. They were very impressed. We will stay in touch with them. Once they decide to go for it, we can organize the purchase and import of a good electric stunner from a German company and get it installed.
