Use your voice

  • Write letters or call retailers (grocery stores, restaurants…) informing them that you disapprove of certain products that they have on their shelves and menus.
  • We highly encourage you to also voice your satisfaction about products that you approve of, encouraging them to continue offering these products.
  • Congratulate industry players that have taken action to decrease animal suffering. See the section “Thumbs Up” and “Inspections” on our homepage to learn more about the positive players. For example various Dutch supermarkets and German and Dutch slaughterhouses have decided to phase out the castration of male pigs, and several poultry slaughterhouses in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands have abandoned the electric stunning of poultry (which caused extreme amount of pain and was inefficient). Numerous farmers have also switched to raising their animals in a free-range system.
  • Write to your government and local authorities about your feelings concerning animal welfare and where you think an improvement or new legislation is needed.

This work is not always very glamorous. And most of the time we are not allowed to be too public about it.
