EonA asked to be a part of EU-project to improve animal-welfare during transport

Eyes on Animals was asked to be a stakeholder in a 3-year EU-project to identify best practices on how to better protect animals from suffering during transport. Today we were in Brussels to give our first input. Our knowledge and evidence from the field was important to show what really goes on in practice, both the bad practices and the improvements some companies have taken on. We also explained clearly that the manufacturers of livestock trucks and poultry crates/containers, as well as the Member State authorities approving them, need to be fully aware of how design can make it very difficult for the truck driver to do a good job at caring adequately for the animals on board. Too often we see inadequate water systems, dividers, sealed trucks without access being approved and these things can lead to horrible suffering in practice.
