On Tuesday and Wednesday 23rd and 24th June,2026, the Wacpaw/EonA team was in Accra on the invitation of Frankatson Limited to participate in a two day Pig and Poultry Seminar. We gave talks to 76 pig farmers on Humane Housing,Transportation and Slaughter. The Ghanaian farmers expressed their gratitude for sharing important knowledge on animal behaviour and welfare with them. They were particularly happy to learn about captive bolt stunner to make pigs unconscious before slaughter and pledged to stop clubbing the pigs and immediately adopt stunning when available. They indicated their readiness for practical trainings on humane handling and slaughter. The feedback after the training was encouraging.
The second tday of the workshop was with Poultry farmers and again, the impact was huge as farmers agreed with our suggestions of installing perches, reducing overcrowding in houses, increasing lighting and provision of natural enrichments as ways of minimizing pecking and stress.
Overall,the two days workshop was very successful and impactful.
The team will soon embark to visit many of their farms and slaughter slabs to give practical trainings on humane handling and the use of stunners. Thanks to a big donation from Stichting Anti Dierenleed, 8 captive bolt stunners and thousands of cartridges are on their way from Eyes on Animals in the Netherlands to the WACPAW office in Ghana.
