EonA participates in BTSF week-long training on animal transport regulations for official vets, Warsaw, Poland

1. Dezember 2023

An EonA team just finished participating and giving 2 short talks at the Better Training for Safer Food week-long training course organized by the EU commission, in Warsaw. It is a group of about 30 official veterinarian inspectors from all over Europe, who are responsible for checking  on animal transports departing for export or arriving at slaughterhouses, control posts and exit points. They have the task and power to enforce the law. We participated in the training to learn and become better trainers ourselves, to network with international vet inspectors and to share our experiences from the field. The purpose of this training is to reduce the number of violations and the often very serious suffering of animals during transport. Our talks were about the pain and suffering caused during conventional chicken catching (conducted in manners that often totally violate Article 3) and what happens to cattle once they exit the EU and arrive at abattoirs far away without stunners. It was a very useful week and we would like to thank the organisers and the EU for financing such a smooth and useful workshops.

🐖 In July 2025, 7 piglets died during transport from Lunteren to a slaughterhouse in Croatia. EonA and @AWF_Germany witnessed dead piglets being thrown off the loading ramp.
Our enforcement request was rejected by the #NVWA.
Why?
And what steps did we take next?
