Beernink slaughterhouse in Oldenzaal (NL) shows no interest in animal welfare advice

October 1, 2019

At the end of May, Eyes on Animals made an unannounced visit to the Beernink slaughterhouse in Oldenzaal (NL). We spoke briefly with the owner about the work of Eyes on Animals and the state of animal welfare in their slaughterhouse. At Beernink cattle, sheep, goats and Billy goats are slaughtered. Some of the animals are slaughtered for the halal market, but stunning is used for all slaughter. The Beernink slaughterhouse is also certified for slaughtering calves under the Dutch ‘Better Life” label.

The owner told us he needed time to consider allowing EoA to see the slaughter facilities at his premises, but to date, he has not contacted us. We have emailed Beernink several times, but unfortunately, we have never had a response.

We regret that Beernink is not receptive to a visit from Eyes on Animals in order to assist in improving welfare in their slaughterhouse to a better standard.

Dear friends,

Every day, hundreds of thousands of laying hens and broilers are caught and loaded for transport to slaughterhouses. For years, this happened behind closed doors, often in the dead of night, out of sight — not only for consumers, but also for authorities and animal welfare organizations.
