On May 29, 2017 Eyes on Animals inspectors conducted an unannounced visit of a goat fattening farm in North Brabant, the Netherlands. Eyes on Animals discovered many dead and sick male kids on the farm. The situation was alarming so we called the Dutch authorities (NVWA) immediately, who sent a team to the location within a couple of hours. Due to the alarming poor welfare of the animals, the NVWA announced that they would inspect all goat fattening-farms in the Netherlands. On June 15th they announced the results of their intensive inspections; over half of the farms had serious welfare problems. Although this is very sad news, we find it very positive that action was taken to prevent more suffering from going unnoticed. Read the newspaper article HERE.
