Today we gave an animal welfare training to three catching teams: Jekal, Van den Broek and Den Ouden. When the training was finished, the catching teams had collectively caught more than 21,000 chickens using the Swedish way. Because this catching method is now being used on a larger scale in the Netherlands compared to Sweden, we now call it the: EonA Dutch method. Watch our video here explaining this catching method.
During the training session we explained about the physiology, intelligence, behavior and sensory capacity of chickens. Knowledge on this matter will stimulate that chickens are treated in a more professional and respectful manner. Various videos and photos of catching and loading chickens were shared to determine what can and should be improved. For example, crate design in relation to injuries and trapping during loading. We also provided instructions on the EonA Dutch catching method which is proved to be less stressful for the chickens.
Both the training and catching went well. The majority of catchers were impressed by the calmness in the barn. We also received compliments about our interactive and interesting presentation. We want to thank the catchers for their commitment and enthusiasm.
