The 31 bulls from Latvia are still on board the truck, for the fifth day, inside the Bulgarian/Turkish border, in so called “No Man’s Land”. Neither the Turkish or Bulgarian authorities want to take responsiblity for this mess. The Turkish authorities cannot let the truck continue to Iraq because it does not have the permits to cross Turkey and the Bulgarian authorities refuse to let it re-enter Bulgaria for fear of spread of disease. There seems no way out of this situation.
Our team from Animal Welfare Foundation and Eyes on Animals check again on the condition of the animals and ensure that the drivers regularly give them at least feed and water. Our team in the field and colleagues back home in the office are doing all they can to draw attention to this urgent situation – we have informed the EU Commission, Member State authorities, and local and foreign media. We will continue to do so until the suffering of these animals is finally put to an end.
