Today Eyes on Animals and AWF gave a training presentation to the Regional Inspectorate of Road Transport (ITD) of Bydgoszcz about the EU legislation protecting animals during transport. Approximately 16 official inspectors took part, many of which were already experienced with a high-level of motivation. We discussed the legal requirements, frequent infringements that are still common in Poland to focus on (cattle tied up by the horns, unfit animals on board and dangerous unloading ramps). Tomorrow will be the practical part of the workshop, when we will stop livestock trucks along the road together to inspect for non-compliance and check that the welfare of the animals is alright.
