Poultry slaughterhouse Storteboom took our advice into consideration on how they could improve their poultry containers and has now made positive changes. In the front of the containers there used to be one horizontal metal bar and two diagonal ones. During catching and loading, birds would sometimes crash against these metal bars, causing pain, fear and also injury. Storteboom therefore removed the horizontal bars and changed the position of the diagonal bars on all their containers. During loading the risk of birds hitting the bars is now significant less. Storteboom is very happy with these modifications as there is now less carcass damage. Also catching companies have let us know that the alterations has eased loading and reduced injuries.
The old containers (left photo) had a thick metal horizonal bar in the middle. In the new containers (right photo) these bars are removed. Also, the diagonal bars are moved a few centimers to the sides. During loading the risk of birds hitting the bars is now significant less.
