Today the Eyes on Animals and TSB|AWF team drove in the early morning to an inspection post along the A4 highway near Gliwice, in order to support the Katowice Road Transport Inspection (ITD) checking on livestock vehicle passing by. Together we inspected 2 pig trucks and 1 chicken truck. One of the pig trucks is correct and can continue without any problems. This driver had been inspected by ITD with TSB|AWF and EonA team three times before and is one of the rare but positive examples of transports without infringements to the EU law protecting animals during transport. The other pig truck has a violation and the driver is fined. He is allowed to continue but obliged to repair the divider before the next consignment of pigs is loaded. On board the poultry truck we find broilers transported in containers with very slippery floors which do not give any grip. As a result, the heavy broilers already with leg deformities have problems to lift themselves, move or sit in a comfortable position. There are also dangerous gaps where legs were trapped. We will write to the competent authority supervising the owner of the containers.
A special thanks to Stichting Anti Dierenleed for making it financially possible for Eyes on Animals to give these trainings.
