Today we trained the other half of ITD Krakow Inspectors, this time in the eastern region of Krakow. Just like yesterday, only one livestock truck (carrying pigs to slaughter) is seen passing by and is stopped, but it gives good educational opportunities. The inspectors spotted very quickly that a divider was not installed on the lower floor. As well, the truck of just 5.80m in length carried 60 pigs on 2 decks! The upper floor had only 20 pigs loaded, the remaining 40 were squeezed on 13m2 of the bottom floor. Using the formulas from our brochure, the inspectors calculated the loading density to specify the exact seriousness of the overcrowding. According to the Regulation (EC) No 1/2005, the maximum number of pigs per floor of this truck should have been 32, and not 40! The driver was fined for both infringements.
A special thanks to Stichting Anti Dierenleed for making it financially possible for Eyes on Animals to give these trainings.
