Police training in Mako, Hungary

This afternoon the EonA/AWF team in Hungary gave a training on the European animal-transport legislation to 4 highway police officers supervising traffic near the Hungarian/Romanian border, where many livestock trucks pass by.

Despite the extreme heat and high humidity these last days still tens of thousands of pigs were transported to Dutch slaughterhouses. We visited the two largest: VION in Boxtel and VION in Apeldoorn.

🐖 U leest het goed: 20.000 (!) varkens per dag.
En dat is nog maar 1 slachthuis.
“Vion slacht zo'n 20.000 dieren per dag, 1.250 dieren per uur. Zodra er een verstoring komt in het proces bij de slachterij, ontstaat er een wachtrij voor de deur.” #slacht

👎 Deze truck stond gisteren rond 17:20 pal in de zon geparkeerd buiten het terrein van Vion in Boxtel. We vroegen de chauffeur te gaan rijden – om de varkens enige verkoeling te geven. Dit deed hij echter niet. De truck heeft ruim 1,5 uur stilgestaan. #hittestress #veetransport
