Meeting with Dutch transport company with bad reputation about improving its act

October 16, 2009

Today Eyes on Animals met with a Dutch animal transport company that has a bad reputation. Many complaints have come in from official veterinarian inspectors in Poland, Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands, as well as from Eyes on Animals, concerning his livestock transports. In the past the water system has been broken, the 24 resting intervals were not respected, dead animals were on board, water was not provided for the animals etc… The manager expressed that he wants to make improvements and clean up his company’s reputation. At the moment he is writing a protocol on correct behaviour towards animals that all his drivers must sign and respect if they want to keep their job. Eyes on Animals will be given the opportunity to review the protocol first. He has also accepted our suggestion to hire us to train his drivers on the EU legislation requirements and how to correctly adhere to the welfare requirements. Despite our frustrations with this company in the past, we are most impressed by the manager’s open mindedness to seek advice and his willingness to make improvements. This is indeed a positive step in the right direction.
