In March 2023 investigative journalists from RTE joined us in the field to investigate the fate of unwanted calves from the dairy industry. The calves are picked up from the Irish dairy farms at just 14 days of age and put through livestock auctions, then collecting stations and then on to large trucks for export to intensive farms in the Netherlands where they are raised for white and rose veal. These animals go for 30-hours at a time without any feed and are physically abused (hit, hollered at, kicked) at the control post in France that they pass through after a long ferry journey. This documentary, on prime time Irish television, caused an uproar in Ireland and has been nominated for best current affairs documentary 2023 by the Royal Television Society.
