Farm Animal Memorial Day

June 19, 2022

We helped farmer Dr. Kees Scheepens with his request to host a Farm Animal Memorial Day at his organic free-range pig and cattle farm. Kees gave a talk about the trauma many farmers and vets developed from having to “kill” so many healthy animals during virus outbreaks, just for economic reasons. Thousands of crocheted white roses were planted in a spiral to represent the animals killed and the viscious circle factory farming has become. Many thanks to all of you that crocheted white roses and a big applause to the artists that made the memorial day beautiful and respectful (De Nieuwe Creatieven, YuYu Visuals, and Steppie Mijn Handwerk). We also took a moment of silence to pay respect to all the millions of healthy animals still being killed right now. We are working all together for a new agricultural system where the animals and the farmers are treated with respect. Where they are led by nature and supported by educated and compassionate consumers rather than led by big agricultural firms and their bankers that exploit in order to maximize their own profit.

I first discovered the bad side of factory-farming and industrial slaughter when I was a young girl of twelve.
When I visited a livestock market I saw a pile of sick animals left for dead behind the building. At a huge industrial poultry slaughterhouse, I saw dozens of live chickens walking around the bloody floor…

#brandbrief https://www.varkensinnood.nl/zerotolerance?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=slachthuizen-2023
