EonA not welcome at assembly center Busser in Bennekom

February 10, 2020

In early May 2018, Eyes on Animals paid an unannounced visit to Busser assembly center. We received a guided tour, but no animals were loaded nor unloaded at that time. Therefore, we were only able to give some recommendations. We asked if we could come back at a later time and were told this would be fine.

Mid November 2019 this unannounced revisit took place, but Busser unfortunately could not see us at that time.  The owner informed us by phone that we would be very welcome when we make an appointment.

However, today we tried to make an appointment by phone to observe the loading and unloading of sows, piglets and horses, among others, and were told we were no longer welcome. The manager informed us that they, the livestock traders, were not interested in our visit or advice. Because of this, we are unable to see if anything has been done with our pervious recommendations, in 2018.

It is very unfortunate that some farms won’t give us the opportunity to help them raise animal welfare to a higher level. We hope that, in the future, Busser will be open to our suggestions.

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.
