Bravo to Rondeel poultry and egg company !

January 16, 2020

Did you know that Rondeel is one of the 2 egg companies that made the switch to the EonA upright method of catching hens ? It means that they humanely catch hens one or maximum 2 at a time, holding the birds upright and supporting them under their breasts, and placing them in the transport crates upright. This is much better than the conventional method that all other egg companies do, which is grabbing the birds by one leg and holding 4 to 5 per hand, upside down, before inserting them into the transport crates.

Tonight we again supervised and assisted with the catching of 27,000 hens at a Rondeel farm. Rondeel and Kipster are the only 2 companies enforcing this more humane method. It makes a huge difference in the level of psychological and physical stress of the birds. We would like to thank the 35 catchers hired by Rondeel on this night for doing a good job. We are now working hard at convincing other egg companies, including ones outside of The Netherlands, to copy this improvement. Next week we will be in the UK with a company also interested in making the switch !
