Theory training of Bulgarian police and veterinarian inspectors

May 23, 2013

21.05.2013_BG_EC12005_Training__70

Today Animal Welfare Foundation and Eyes on Animals, together with animal-transport inspectors from the Mobile Unit from Slovenia, gave a full-day theory training on the EU legislative requirements concerning the protection of animals during transport to 100 Bulgarian official inspectors and road police. We reviewed together the legislative requirements, common observations of suffering that need extra attention, how to apply appropriate measures and sanctions and what steps the Mobile Unit in Slovenia take to effectively solve violations. We would like to thank the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food for inviting us, the hard-working women from the Ministry who organized the venue and coordinated the day, Dr. Tomsic and Dr. Deutsch from Slovenia as well as all the Bulgarian participants that took this opportunity to learn new things and showed interest in further improving animal welfare. Thank you also to Alina, our new Bulgarian volunteer who translated our education material and helped give the training.

Dear friends,

I first discovered the bad side of factory-farming and industrial slaughter when I was a young girl of twelve.
When I visited a livestock market I saw a pile of sick animals left for dead behind the building. At a huge industrial poultry slaughterhouse, I saw dozens of live chickens walking around the bloody floor…
