EonA has hosted a successful conference for 100 people from the animal transport and slaughter industry. The name of the conference was “Embracing Better Practices during Animal Transport and Slaughter – taking responsibility and showing respect and reciprocity towards animals”. Companies from Europe and abroad had registered, to explain their better practices, to network, to learn from each other and gather knowledge in order to improve animal-welfare during transport and slaughter.
There were many interesting speakers who told about their experiences and everyone felt comfortable enough to ask each other questions. The famous American Temple Grandin, an expert in ethology and designing slaughterhouses according to animal behaviour, was one of the keynote speakers. Since this conference we have received a lot of feedback from the various participants regarding better practices they had learned about at the conference and had now put into place in their slaughterhouse or trucks. After these successful two days we have decided to host a follow-up conference in 2 to 3 years to see the progress of the ideas and to keep improving animal welfare.
