Police training in Somogy County, Hungary – Part 2

October 18, 2012

18.10.2012_HU_Police_Training_Ciofok__17Today we gave our final of three trainings on the EU animal-welfare-during-transport legislation in the Hungarian county of Somogy, this time to the police in the town of Siofok. This city was chosen because it is close to the highway which is the main route of livestock transport trucks in this region. Twenty-four police officers participated in the theory training given in the morning and fifteen participated in the practical part during the afternoon. We were pleased by the fact that the police were very attentive and several asked questions and seemed eager to learn more about enforcement of animal welfare regulations during transport. The practical session was unfortunately less successful- during the 1.5 hours we had waiting on the highway together to inspect livestock trucks, no animal trucks were observed. We will remain in contact, as the police would like that we try the practical part again at another time.

Dear friends,

I first discovered the bad side of factory-farming and industrial slaughter when I was a young girl of twelve.
When I visited a livestock market I saw a pile of sick animals left for dead behind the building. At a huge industrial poultry slaughterhouse, I saw dozens of live chickens walking around the bloody floor…
