Police training in Somogy Country, Hungary- Part 1

October 17, 2012

17.10.2012_HU_police_training_Marcali__23The Chief Officer of the Hungarian county of Somogy asked the Eyes on Animals, Animal Welfare Foundation and Welfarm team to give three trainings in two days to three different local offices. This morning we gave a theoretical training to the police of Marcali, and in the afternoon to the officers of Fonyod.
In this region there is an export station where animals destined for Turkey can be dispatched. We taught these officers what EU laws exist to protect animals during transport and the many problems observed on livestock trucks originating in Hungary, but also ones from further away and passing through Hungary on their way to Turkey. At the end of the training we gave the officers a test- putting them in simulated real-life scenarios of a truck inspection and asking them to identify the violation and the appropriate sanction and action to take.
A few officers already had some experience inspecting livestock trucks, but the majority did not and thus had a lot to learn. Fortunately the atmosphere was positive and we sensed that many individuals enjoyed the course.

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.
