Trailing Bulgarian cattle truck to Serbian border

April 16, 2013

Bulgaria_14.04.2013_4
Tonight the EonA/AWF inspectors followed a long distance cattle truck from Bulgaria with the final destination Croatia. The truck stopped at the BIP (border inspection post) of Kalotina. On the truck there where 80 young bulls of different weight categories. Some compartments of the truck were clearly overcrowded. There was also not enough bedding, this was especially evident because it was raining and the animals were now standing on a slippery and very wet surface. The cattle did not make a very good impression- several of them were covered with the fungal disease trichophytosis, which is very contageous. The Bulgarian border inspector did not exit to check the animals at the EU exit point. Latter he explained that it is not his duty to check the animals when they exit the EU.  We will send our photos and report about this to the pertinent local and EU authorities.

Dear friends and donors,

Autumn is now upon us and the rain pours outside. It is hard to imagine that we conducted “heat-stress” inspections at various major slaughterhouses in the Netherlands not so long ago! But we did, because just a few weeks ago it was still very hot and humid outside.

Hoog-pathogene #vogelgriep vastgesteld in pluimveehouderij (110.000 leghennen) in #Putten. Alle dieren worden gedood. In principe is het mogelijk om de pluimvee te beschermen door vaccinatie, maar in #Nederland weegt exportwinst blijkbaar zwaarder.
