Presentation to the Dutch Animal Police

September 14, 2012

P1050388 Eyes on Animals was invited by the Dutch Animal Police from the East region to give a presentation of our findings during our inspections of livestock-transports and slaughter in the Netherlands and abroad. Approximately 30 officers were present, all with a passion to put an end to violations to animal-welfare. We admire these officers, who, by treating cases of animal abuse seriously and taking the time to investigate them, are much better able to track down criminal activity involving the sex trade of young women, child-porno, hard drugs and weapons because roughly 80% of criminals start off by practicing violence on animals. During our presentation we illustrated which violations we most commonly continue to see. We will remain in contact with eachother.

When I visited a livestock market I saw a pile of sick animals left for dead behind the building. At a huge industrial poultry slaughterhouse, I saw dozens of live chickens walking around the bloody floor…

👎 “We have given @VanDrieGroup warnings of the violations on this route and the incredible welfare problems - for the animals and people - in the hope that they would do something effective; but still there is no action. “ #veal #calves

📌 “Van Drie, the main importer of these calves, is one of the top 500 richest families in the Netherlands. They are the biggest producers of veal in the world and one of the greatest users of antibiotics in the livestock sector.”
