A team from Eyes on Animals was on the highways in southern Holland to randomly check on livestock trucks bringing animals to slaughterhouses in the night. We observed, among others, 3 livestock trucks from the company Plukon bringing broiler chickens to slaughter. The trucks had material along the side to protect the birds from the cold winds, which was good, but like with almost all poultry crates and containers, it is impossible to access the birds during transport. We did not observe anything spectacular ourselves, but upon coming home in the early morning we received news that there had been a horrible chicken truck accident further north in Drenthe. See here.
