EonA and AWF give a presentation on animal-suffering-during-transport to Turkey at the UECBV meeting

October 1, 2012

23.06.2012_TR.IB.17__KT860AM_sick_injured_calf__74Eyes on Animals and Animal Welfare Foundation are invited to give a talk at the UECBV meeting. We are asked to present the animal-welfare problems we continue to document on animal-transports from the EU to Turkey. The UECBV is the European Union for Livestock and Meat traders, based in Brussels. Members of this union from throughout the EU are present. We make an appeal to them to phase out the transport of live animals to Turkey during the hot summer months. It is impossible to ensure that temperatures do not reach above 35 °C for the animals inside the vehicles, as the EU forbids, when they bring their animals to Turkey in the summer months. The heat, and lack of infrastructure and adequate water, are the main sources for suffering on this route.
