EonA talks at European Parliament in Brussels

February 19, 2025

Today we gave a talk at the European Parliament. We were invited by MEPs Anja Hazekamp and Sebastien Everding. We presented the new film about how sheep and cattle are transported on very difficult and long journeys from all over Europe by truck and vessel to slaughterhouses in third countries far away, such as Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon and Morocco.

This film was made by fieldwork organizations Eyes on Animals, Animal Welfare Foundation, Animals Angels, Animals International, Ethical Farming Ireland and CIWF who regularly trail international animals transports and document slaughterhouse conditions abroad. EonA took this opportunity to also discuss the urgent need for the EU to not just put an end to these journeys as they are guaranteed to cause horrendous suffering to the animals but also to assist in cleaning up the slaughter conditions these animals face, which are tortuous. Trainings in animal behaviour, design and in equipment such as captive bolt and electric stunners are completely lacking in these countries and left to tiny NGOs. EonA encouraged the EU to export knowledge and humane equipment, not live animals.

A short film was made of the event.

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.
