Visit to Hungarian control post “Global Horse”(HU)

August 16, 2012

Today a team from Eyes on Animals and Animal Welfare Foundation dropped by, unannounced, to the control post “Global Horse, located in South-East Hungary, near the border with Romania. Many European livestock transports on their way to Turkey stop here to unload and rest the animals. The owner was welcoming to our visit and after a discussion he showed us the stables. Today there were not any animals in transit. In fact, he is not expecting any trucks until next week because the Turkish custom authorities are not working due to Ramadam celebrations. He knows about the problems in Turkey, and insists that transporters need to better plan their journeys. He insists that reservations for his place be made in advanced and confirmed. His stables have lots of bedding and large water troughs. To keep the temperature down inside, he sprays the roof during very hot days and has installed large ventilators on both sides of the building. Each pen also had access to a small outdoor paddock, so the animals can chose to be inside or outside. He promises that any truck coming to his facility to rest the animals, must remain for the full legal 24 hours. We will stay in touch.
