Today Veepro (the Information Centre for Dutch Dairy Cattle) and Vee & Logistiek (an organization that acts for the interest of animal traders and transporters) came to meet with Eyes on Animals at their office. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss our common concern about the recent incidences of Dutch cattle (transported by Van Dommelen and by Hunland) getting stuck at the Turkish border for several days. We also discussed other topics such as the suffering involved in the transport of very young animals and the importance of access to animals during transport. We also made it clear to them that transport companies do not pay in advance to book a control post in Bulgaria, Poland, France… as many have been claiming, and that is why so many do not show up but just keep driving. We will remain in dialogue and thank them for the constructive discussion.
