Positive news from our team currently in Turkey ! Another Turkish cattle slaughterhouse agrees to stunning !
Today the EonA team visited Aydin paşa Et slaughterhouse. The purpose of our visit was to show them what a captive bolt pistol looks like, how it works, and its welfare advantages of rendering an animal insensitive to pain before cutting its throat. The chief of the plant, the vet and the butchers were very much in favour of it. It also makes the work much safer for them. We taught them how to use it and together stunned cattle at their plant. As they were very serious, we gave them one of our captive bolt stunners and enough cartridges to last them 1year. We will conduct follow-up visits. Should the stunner be properly and frequently used, and well maintained, we will give them more cartridges later. Normally cattle are hoisted alive by a chain around one leg, and then have their throats cut while fully conscious in Turkey.
We are pleased that more and more religious authorities and slaughtermen now better understand and accept stunning. This is the 5th slaughterhouse now in Turkey that we have worked with and succeeded in adopting stunning.
