Vandaag bezocht het Wacpaw\/EonA team Cape Coast (Ghana) om een training te geven aan werknemers van het Meat Unit Abattoir en studenten Meat Science over het humaan vangen en behandelen van pluimvee tijdens het slachten. We installeerden ook pneumatische verdovingsapparatuur voor pluimvee (het pneumatische verdovingspistool Zephyr) om ervoor te zorgen dat pluimvee eerst bewusteloos wordt gemaakt voordat het wordt geslacht. Het Meat Unit Abattoir van de Universiteit van Cape Coast levert een aanzienlijk deel van het vlees dat in de stad Cape Coast wordt geconsumeerd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De deelnemers werden eerst ge\u00efntroduceerd in het basisgedrag van pluimvee en verschillende technieken om met pluimvee om te gaan, met de nadruk op de rechtopstaande vangmethode, die veel minder stress en pijn veroorzaakt voor de vogels dan wanneer ze bij hun poten worden gepakt en ondersteboven worden gehouden. We lieten ook zien hoe de vogels in de kegels worden geladen om ze te verdoven voordat hun keel wordt doorgesneden, zodat ze bewusteloos raken en dus ongevoelig zijn voor pijn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We demonstreerden het hele proces aan de deelnemers en begeleidden hen toen ze zelf oefenden met het rechtop vangen en verdoven van vogels. Zowel de medewerkers als de studenten voelden zich gesterkt en begrepen beter waarom deze technieken essentieel zijn om het lijden van dieren te verminderen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drie vrouwelijke studenten toonden bovendien interesse in vrijwilligerswerk voor WACPAW om tijdens hun vakantie de boodschap van humaan omgaan met pluimvee in hun gemeenschap te verspreiden! We zullen ze verder opleiden om ervoor te zorgen dat ze goed voorbereid zijn om samen te werken met lokale boeren en slachterijen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De autoriteiten van de universiteit spraken hun oprechte dank uit aan EonA voor het doneren van de verdover en de kegels en het sponsoren van de training. We kijken ernaar uit om in de toekomst terug te komen om de werking van de apparatuur en de vooruitgang van het slachthuis te beoordelen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
