Eyes on Animals had een ontmoeting met afgevaardigden van JAMTI (Japan Meat Technology Institute), universitair onderzoekers en verschillende managers van varkensslachthuizen in Japan, om te bespreken hoe het slachten van varkens kan worden verbeterd, zodat lijden en stress worden verminderd. De focus van onze presentatie lag op een project dat we hebben uitgevoerd om automatische elektrische verdoving met hoge doorvoer veel betrouwbaarder te maken en de stress bij dieren te beperken, in een poging om verdoving met CO2-gas te voorkomen (CO2-gas veroorzaakt helaas pijn en ademnood).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omdat de Japanse slachthuizen relatief klein zijn en gebruik maken van elektrische verdoving, was ons project voor hen van bijzonder belang. Bovendien heeft Japan zojuist de studiebezoeken over dierenwelzijn in verschillende andere landen afgerond en bereidt het nu een handleiding voor voor de juiste omgang met dieren, met als doel dierenwelzijnspraktijken in Japanse slachthuizen te bevorderen en dierenwelzijn een belangrijker onderdeel van het proces te maken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
