Maret is de grootste distributeur van vlees aan onder meer supermarkten in Turkije. Ze krijgen het vlees van 17 slachthuizen; Maret heeft ook een eigen slachthuis.<br \/>\nWe wilden hen inlichten over de meest voorkomende problemen die we tegenkomen in Turkse slachthuizen. We hebben hen nadrukkelijk verzocht hun toeleveranciers te vragen om hun slachthuizen te moderniseren en om beter met de dieren om te gaan. We zijn uitgenodigd om hun fabriek opnieuw te inspecteren als we de volgende keer weer in Turkije zijn. Maret was op de hoogte van een groot aantal problemen die we benoemden en ze waren het met ons eens dat het nu tijd is voor verbetering van de omstandigheden in de Turkse slachthuizen. Ze denken dat dit snel gaat gebeuren omdat het Turks ministerie van Landbouw werkt aan de eerste wetgeving op het gebied van dierenwelzijn tijdens het slachten. Ze vertelden ons ook dat ze bezig zijn om steeds minder vlees af te nemen afkomstig van een slachthuis in Kazan (Rusland). Dit naar aanleiding van onze klacht van vorig jaar over dit slachthuis: het was echt afschuwelijk wat zich daar afspeelde. De directeur daar was absoluut niet ge\u00efnteresseerd in dierenwelzijn.
