Wir besichtigten einen gro\u00dfen Schlachthof, in dem Schweine mit einem automatisierten, elektrischen System bet\u00e4ubt werden, statt mit dem \u00e4u\u00dferst aversiven CO\u2082-Gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schweine, die&nbsp;CO\u2082&nbsp;ausgesetzt sind, erleben 15-30 Sekunden lang intensive Panik und Schmerzen bevor sie das Bewusstsein verlieren. Hohe Konzentrationen an CO\u2082&nbsp;verursachen starke Atemnot und f\u00fchren zu Ver\u00e4tzungen der Atemwege, der Lungen und der Augen.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Um eine humanere Alternative zu entwickeln, arbeitete Eyes on Animals mit diesem Schlachthof zusammen, um das automatisierte Elektrobet\u00e4ubungssystem f\u00fcr Schweine\u00a0zu\u00a0verbessern bei dem die Tiere durch Stromschlag sofort bewusstlos werden.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Die Treibg\u00e4nge zu den elektrischen Bet\u00e4ubungsanlagen wurden an das nat\u00fcrliche Verhalten der Schweine angepasst, und die Abl\u00e4ufe beim Treiben wurden sorgf\u00e4ltig festgelegt. Die Schweine werden in sehr kleinen Gruppen (maximal sechs Tiere) getrieben, sie k\u00f6nnen die Einzeleing\u00e4nge nebeneinander betreten, und die Geschwindigkeit, mit der sie zur Bet\u00e4ubungsanlage gef\u00fchrt werden, wurde durch den Einsatz von drei zus\u00e4tzlichen Bet\u00e4ubungseinheiten um 75 % reduziert. Dieses System ist nun schon seit mehreren Jahren erfolgreich in Betrieb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obwohl seit Jahrzehnten bekannt ist, dass CO\u2082&nbsp;ein aggressives und \u00e4u\u00dferst aversives Gas ist, wird es in industriellen Schweineschlachth\u00f6fen nach wie vor weit verbreitet eingesetzt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eines der Hauptargumente gegen ein Verbot dieser Methode war bislang die Behauptung, es gebe keine realistische Alternative. Diese Situation hat sich ge\u00e4ndert. In der Praxis haben wir gezeigt, dass ein gro\u00df angelegtes elektrisches Bet\u00e4ubungssystem technisch machbar ist und viel Leid verhindern kann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aus diesem Grund laden wir Superm\u00e4rkte, Einzelh\u00e4ndler und Tierschutzorganisationen ein, sich dieses System selbst anzuschauen. Nur wenn Entscheidungstr\u00e4ger wissen, dass es eine Alternative gibt, k\u00f6nnen sie deren breitere Einf\u00fchrung aktiv unterst\u00fctzen und f\u00f6rdern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">W\u00e4hrend des Besuchs zeigten wir au\u00dferdem Videos von kleineren Schlachth\u00f6fen, wo man Stress durch ein durchdachtes Design und ruhigem Umgang mit den Tieren&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;auf ein Minimum h\u00e4lt. Kleinere Schlachth\u00f6fe bieten oftmals bessere M\u00f6glichkeiten f\u00fcr einen stressarmen Umgang, weil die Kommunikation einfacher und der Arbeitsdruck oftmals geringer ist.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Durch den Austausch von Wissen, praktische Erfahrung und erfolgreichen Beispielen hoffen wir, damit im gr\u00f6\u00dferen Umfang Verbesserungen in Schlachth\u00f6fen zu bewirken.\u00a0Ob es einem gef\u00e4llt oder nicht, allein in Europa werden jeden Tag hunderttausende Schweine geschlachtet. F\u00fcr diese Tiere macht es einen erheblichen Unterschied, ob sie in einen Schlachthof gelangen, wo die Bet\u00e4ubungsmethode extreme Panik ausl\u00f6st, oder in einen, wo die Bet\u00e4ubung sofort eintritt und ein tiergerechter Umgang Priorit\u00e4t hat.
