Der Direktor der Farm hie\u00df uns herzlich willkommen und war dankbar f\u00fcr unseren Besuch &#8211; vor allem aus zwei Gr\u00fcnden: um zu lernen, wie man die Stressbelastung bei Schweinen verringern und verletzte Tiere besser behandeln kann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Er betonte, dass das Wohlergehen der Tiere f\u00fcr ihn oberste Priorit\u00e4t hat und dass er sich f\u00fcr kontinuierliche Verbesserungen einsetzt. Er freute sich auch \u00fcber die Rolle, die unsere Organisation dabei spielt, Landwirten &#8211; sowohl in Ghana als auch im Ausland &#8211; die vielen Vorteile der Umsetzung h\u00f6herer Tierschutzstandards n\u00e4her zu bringen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nach einer einst\u00fcndigen Betriebsbesichtigung hatten wir ein kurzes Treffen mit dem Direktor und der Leiterin der Farm, die auch eine ausgebildete Tier\u00e4rztin ist. Wir berichteten von unseren Beobachtungen und gaben praktische Empfehlungen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zum Zeitpunkt unseres Besuchs waren auf dem Betrieb etwa 1 026 Schweine untergebracht, die nach Alter, Gr\u00f6\u00dfe und Geschlecht getrennt waren. Die Tiere hatten ausreichend Platz, und es gab nur eine minimale Belastung durch \u00dcberbelegung. Die Schweine wurden gut gef\u00fcttert, hatten Zugang zu sauberem Wasser, und die Gesundheitszust\u00e4nde wurden sorgf\u00e4ltig \u00fcberwacht. Der Betrieb verf\u00fcgte auch \u00fcber eine gut konzipierte Rampe, um die Schweine sicher f\u00fcr den Transport zu verladen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dennoch stellten wir einige erhebliche Missst\u00e4nde fest. S\u00e4mtliche B\u00f6den waren aus blankem Beton, und viele Tiere hatten sichtbare Sch\u00fcrfwunden &#8211; ein deutliches Anzeichen f\u00fcr Unwohlsein. Auch das Kupieren der Schw\u00e4nze wurde routinem\u00e4\u00dfig praktiziert. Wir rieten dringend von dieser schmerzhaften Prozedur ab und schlugen vor, stattdessen mehr Tr\u00e4nkenippel anzubringen und f\u00fcr eine abwechslungsreiche Umgebung zu sorgen (z. B. H\u00e4ngespielzeug, Raufutter, Erdmaterial, Zweige usw.), um das Bei\u00dfverhalten der Schweine auf nat\u00fcrliche Weise zu verringern, indem sie die M\u00f6glichkeit haben, zu spielen und sich abzulenken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leider hatten die Schweine auch nicht die M\u00f6glichkeit, im Schlamm zu baden &#8211; ein wichtiges nat\u00fcrliches Bed\u00fcrfnis bei dieser Hitze. Die Mitarbeiter baden die Schweine zwar alle zwei Wochen, um ihnen ab und zu Abk\u00fchlung zu verschaffen, und es wurden gro\u00dfe Ventilatoren installiert, um den Hitzestress zu verringern, aber wir haben empfohlen, Wassersprinkler zu installieren und kleine Becken in den Buchten anzulegen, um eine gleichm\u00e4\u00dfigere Abk\u00fchlung zu erreichen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wir empfahlen auch die Anlage komfortablerer Buchten f\u00fcr tr\u00e4chtige Sauen &#8211; getrennt von der Hauptherde -, in denen sie w\u00e4hrend der Geburtsphase w\u00fchlen und Nester bauen k\u00f6nnen, was ihren angeborenen Trieben entspricht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Managementteam war offen, kooperativ und bem\u00fcht, die Zust\u00e4nde zu verbessern. Sie versicherten uns, dass sie mit der Umsetzung unserer Empfehlungen beginnen w\u00fcrden, und baten uns um Hilfe bei der Beschaffung eines Bolzenschussger\u00e4ts f\u00fcr die Not-Euthanasie &#8211; eine Bitte, die wir voll unterst\u00fctzen. Wie vielerorts in Ghana werden verletzte Tiere oft ihrem Leiden \u00fcberlassen oder auf unmenschliche Weise auf der Farm get\u00f6tet (wiederholte Schl\u00e4ge auf den Kopf mit Schlagst\u00f6cken oder Brechstangen), weil es dort keine Bolzenschussger\u00e4te gibt. Wir werden ihnen so schnell wie m\u00f6glich einen Bolzenschussapparat schicken und sie im Umgang mit diesem Ger\u00e4t schulen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wir sind dem Direktor und seinem Team dankbar f\u00fcr ihre Gastfreundschaft, ihre Offenheit und ihre Bereitschaft, positive Verbesserungen f\u00fcr ihre Tiere zu erreichen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doch es ist ersch\u00fctternd zu sehen, wie einige landwirtschaftliche Einrichtungen und Unternehmen aus dem Westen immer noch intensive, fabrik\u00e4hnliche Haltungsmethoden in afrikanischen L\u00e4ndern f\u00f6rdern &#8211; viele dieser L\u00e4nder hatten traditionell Freilandhaltungen. Diese industriellen Modelle, die oft im Namen der \u201eModernisierung\u201c eingef\u00fchrt werden, verursachen unn\u00f6tiges Leid f\u00fcr die Tiere und untergraben seit langem bestehende, humane Landwirtschaftspraktiken.
