Ongoing investigation into animal treatment at slaughterhouses

March 12, 2010

For the past 2 days, an Eyes on Animals team has discreetly observed several slaughterhouses to a) check if the European animal slaughter legislation is being respected and b) to check if conditions are acceptable when no one is officially watching. Fortunately we have nothing illegal yet to report but it is part of a long ongoing investigation. … [Read more...] about Ongoing investigation into animal treatment at slaughterhouses

They were broiler chickens going to slaughter, only a couple of months old and still peeping. Fortunately the loading density was acceptable and the … [Read more...] about Inspection of a chicken truck in Belgium

During the winter, and particularly tonight, there are very strong cold winds and thus the trucks transporting these small animals must have lateral wind-protectors. One truck however only had partial side protectors, and thus a few columns of stacked transport crates were exposed … [Read more...] about Inspection of a rabbit livestock truck during very cold temperatures

Inspection of a rabbit slaughterhouse in Benelux

January 8, 2010

Eyes on Animals inspected Benelux's largest rabbit slaughterhouse, located in Belgium but with 80% of its rabbits coming from the Netherlands. We were relieved that despite it being a halal plant, the rabbits are put through a stunner before being bled. The slaughter speed was also slow enough to give the stunners and cutters time to do their job properly without missing … [Read more...] about Inspection of a rabbit slaughterhouse in Benelux

Our most recent newsletter

Dear friends,

It’s not every day that an animal-welfare organization takes on the challenge of redesigning a large pig slaughterhouse and their animal handling techniques, but that’s exactly what we did in 2020.

“Vier ministeries willen met behulp van reclamebureaus het imago van bestrijdingsmiddelen verbeteren. Terwijl ze een gevaar zijn voor het insectenrijk en een risico voor onze eigen gezondheid. Nee, dan heb je er echt niets van begrepen.”
