Inspection of Hedel horse market (NL)

November 5, 2012

05.11.2012_hedel_verkeerd_aangebonden_pony

Eyes on Animals was present last night at the yearly horse market in Hedel. Fortunately this year there were not any sick animals present. The market was well-organized; there was enough water and hay available and from the beginning of the market onward veterinarians were present. Abuses like we had seen two years ago were out of the question and there was also … [Read more...] about Inspection of Hedel horse market (NL)

The livestock market in Ciney in Belgium, one of the largest livestock markets in Europe, was visited by Eyes on Animals inspectors. Around 2400 cattle and calves and a small number of horses, ponies and donkeys were present this day. The market made a much better impression than during an Eyes on Animals visit two years ago. Back then we … [Read more...] about Inspection of livestock market Ciney (Belgium)

Visit to calf market Leeuwarden

June 19, 2012

19.06.2012_kalvermarkt_11

After a visit to the sheep market and the cattle-market, Eyes on Animals inspectors now visited the calf market in Leeuwarden. The market itself again made a decent impression. There was enough straw and the calves had plenty of space. The calves couldn’t drink, but the time they spent at the market and during transport does probably not exceed the legal nine hour limit. … [Read more...] about Visit to calf market Leeuwarden

Visit to Leeuwarden cattle market, NL

June 14, 2012

14.06.2012_Leeuwarden_cows_with_water

Eyes on Animals inspectors made a visit to the cull-cow market in Leeuwarden. Like at previous visits, it made a positive impression. The vet hired by the cattle-market gave us an extended tour. He explained and clarified things and answered our questions. He seemed to genuinely care about the welfare of the animals. There were no ‘downers’ or seriously ill cows present. An … [Read more...] about Visit to Leeuwarden cattle market, NL

Visit to Leeuwarden sheep market, NL

June 12, 2012

12.06.2012_schapenmarkt_foto_2

The sheep market in Leeuwarden was visited today by two Eyes on Animals inspectors. We have visited the cattle market in Leeuwarden before, but it was the first time we went to the sheep market. There were about a thousand animals; almost all sheep and some goats. The market made a decent impression, certainly better than other sheep markets we visited before. The animals … [Read more...] about Visit to Leeuwarden sheep market, NL
