Today a team from Eyes on Animals returned to Ivo Hendriksen slaughterhouse in Lichtenvoorde, NL. At this plant, various types of animals are slaughtered, in particular piglets. We were pleased to see during this follow-up visit that they had put several of our recommendations into practice that we gave them last year.
Ivo Hendriksen has installed rubber nobs on all the gates to limit the level of noise from metal banging against metal in their plant. Keeping the noise level low in a slaughterhouse is very important to reduce stress and fright in the animals. As well, Ivo Hendriksen has installed a rolling-door to prevent that the lairage, where the animals wait, becomes drafty. Pigs are very sensitive to air movement and become stressed and uncomfortable if there is a draft.
We want to thank Ivo Hendriksen for putting these positive suggestions into practice!
